Position Overview

The role of Hostess is to manage all phone and email communication for the bars. This includes reservation requests and confirmations.  Job duties include but are not limited to: control the flow in the room by seating guests in station rotation while maintaining guest lists, following and enforcing all bar standards. You will work closely with the Assistant Director of F&B and Beverage Manager to manage the reservations book and all guest requests.  Be able to “sell” the hotel and bar.   Meet all phone etiquette standards. Handle reservation system, take incoming telephone calls, note reservations and special requests by guest.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of daily events, times and locations.
  • Thorough conversational knowledge of outlet menus.
  • Participates in daily line roll call staff meeting.
  • Take reservations and conduct confirmation calls.
  • Manage and monitor guest reservation book and confirmation standard.
  • Greets, escorts and seats guest as necessary.
  • Makes contact with every guest table.
  • Completes inspection checklists and submits necessary maintenance and housekeeping request forms.
  • Provide general information and director of lobby guests inquiry.
  • Detailed every table before each meal period, as well as menus.
  • Establishes and maintains professionally efficient and effective communication within the
  • Is flexible and able to work under pressure to achieve the objectives of the F&B Department.
  • Make sure entry doors are clean, free of debris and inviting.
  • Check menus to ensure they are current, clean, plentiful, and wrinkle-free.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Takes reservations according to company policies and controls.
  • Learn and manage the online table reservation system; adding, modifying, removing, confirming reservations.
  • Answer the phone in accordance with hotels standards.
  • Accept reservations for the Polo Lounge, Cabana Cafe and the Private
  • Dining Room, by taking the following information: name of the host, time, number of people in the party and phone number as well as Credit Card number if appropriate

Qualifications and Desirables

  • High School or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). 
  •  2 years Front of the House Food and Beverage experience in luxury
  • World Class Hotel or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Fluent Bi-lingual technical conversation vocabulary (English/Spanish) would be an asset. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with service team and present specific culinary and wine information to guests.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present operational and motivational information before clients or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to respond to and creatively resolve guest inquiries or complaints.


  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
