Position Overview

The primary function of the Bartender works effectively as part of the service team of the Cabana Café, Bar 1912 & Polo Lounge . Primarily responsible for, but not limited to, the proper delivery of food from the kitchen to the guest and assisting with overall service to the guest.  Provide quality service to ensure positive results reflected in DC core standards, AAA, Forbes standard results and guest Gallup feedback.

AVAILABILITY: Due to nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel.

Employees may be required to cross train in various departments for overall understanding of the operations in order to provide ultimate guest experience. AM and PM availability required . The position will consist of  working in the following outlets, Cabana Café, Bar 1912 & Polo Lounge.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

Individual needs to have a professional appearance and warm, accommodating confident, enthusiastic, motivating personality and abide by the principles, goals and policies in The Beverly Hills Hotel Pledge.  Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Highest standard of beverage product and bar sanitation storage, and handling procedures.
  • Beverage quality and portion control standards.
  • Fresh ingredient, mixology and beverage presentation and service standards.
  • Follows labor schedule and work assignments.
  • Knowledge of all daily events, times and locations
  • Thorough conversational knowledge of hotel history and statistics.
  • Orders or requisitions liquors and supplies.
  • Stocks bar with supplies:  cocktail napkins, stirrers, etc.
  • Arranges bottles and glasses to specification.
  • Freshly slices and pits fruit for garnishing drinks.
  • Takes order from restaurant servers.
  • Mixes ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
  • Specific knowledge of house wines and beer selections.
  • Serve food and have knowledge, make recommendations, and know ingredients and allergies
  • Serve wine and bottled beer.
  • Strict adherence to uniform and grooming standards

 
Transports beverage requisitions from central purchasing to beverage storerooms.
Receives, restocks and reconciles product inventory.
Telephone answering.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time and move frequently from area to area.
Ability to stand for long periods at a time, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be willing to work outdoors in seasonal heat (90F+) or cold as well as inclement weather. 
 

Qualifications and Desirables


EDUCATIONAL AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
One year certificate from technical bartender school;
3 years technical bartending experience;
2 years Hotel experience preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of wines to include:
Certificate of Completion of wine training seminar or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Clear, fluent conversational English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as recipes, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and requisitions.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ration and percent to draw and interpret bars graphs. Demonstrated proficiency with guest service and Point of Sale Systems. Cash handling etiquette, registering transactions, bank procedures – balancing, due backs and auditing
