Position Overview

The primary function of the Banquet Server is to assume the following job responsibilities: to be attentive to the needs of all guests in the function room providing them with dependable, punctual and enthusiastic service.  Provide quality service to ensure positive results reflected in  AAA, Forbes standard results and guest comment cards.

Individual needs to have a professional appearance and warm, accommodating confident, enthusiastic, motivating personality and abide by the principles, goals and policies in The Beverly Hills Hotel  Pledge. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ensure all tables and chairs are set and the function room is clean and neat prior to leaving for the shift.
  • Ensure all food and beverage items have been returned to the kitchen or to the captain of the function.
  • Ensure all condiments, including salt, pepper, sugar, flowers, skirts and props go back to the banquet storerooms.
  • Service all functions including plated, buffet, silver served or VIP meals, coffee breaks, benefits, theme parties, wedding, receptions, etc.
  • Create instant “accounts” for the guest using credit cards and running tabs for them as well as accurately closing these accounts out at the end of the function.
  • Conduct oneself in the established standard and professional manner at all times.
  • Ensure and maintain a clean, neat and organized work area.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.
  • Transport all liquor, wine, beer, soda, juice, condiments, non-food items and glassware to the banquet function area.
  • Prepare drinks according to standard recipes using the proper stemware and garnishment.
  • Set up and break down a bar or beverage station in a timely manner.
  • Ice down all wines and beverages for banquet functions.
  • Minimize breakage.
  • Tally the consumption tabs accurately and record figures where appropriate.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

  • Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to all internal and external guests.
  • Recognize and address potential intoxicated disruptive or undesirable guests.
  • Follow standard cash handling procedures.
  • No solicitation of gratuities.
  • Complete any reasonable tasks assigned to by the Banquet Operations Manager or Director of Catering and Conference Services.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to walk and stoop, kneel or crouch. Ability to stand for long periods (more than 8 hours). The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications and Desirables

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High School or General Education Diploma (GED). 2 years Front of the House Food & Beverage experience in luxury world class hotel or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Clear fluent conversational English. Fluent bilingual technical conversation vocabulary (English/Spanish) would be an asset.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as recipes, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, B.E.O. (Banquet event Order) and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and requisitions.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to respond to and creatively resolve guest inquiries or complaints.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, areas, circumference and volume in seating/room capacities.

REASONING ABILITY:

Primary quality detailed service ethic. Strong interpersonal staff and guest relations.Team minded approach to fellow workers. Ability to apply commons sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
