Position Overview

The primary function of the Banquet Houseperson is to assume the following job responsibilities:  Set-up and Break down of china, glass, silver, linen, tables, chairs, and props for banquet functions as well as attend to guest needs and requests. Provide quality service to ensure positive results reflected in AAA, Forbes standard results and guest comment cards.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

Individual needs to have a professional appearance and warm, accommodating confident, enthusiastic, motivating personality and abide by the principles, goals and policies in The Beverly Hills Hotel  Pledge. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Set-up, breakdown of clean tables, chairs, buffets, skirting, and props as specified by the banquet event order
  • Stock linen, china, silver and glassware and supplies for service ensuring good condition.
  • Maintain cleanliness and good condition of all banquet function space according to maintenance programs and plans
  • Retrieve meeting materials, props, crates, and boxes from the hotel’s receiving area and store them safely and securely
  • Work professionally with co-workers and supervisors. 
  • Maintain all banquet equipment, chairs, tables, podiums, etc.
  • Maintain all banquet linen and skirting
  • Follow departmental presentation standards
  • Knowledge of hotel history
  • Know all daily meetings / events and their location
  • Assist in set-up of tables, chairs, linen, and meeting amenities, for each function according to the banquet event order
  • Service event according to Event Order
  • Ascertain guest satisfaction
  • Breakdown, & clean all equipment and leave function space in a presentable manner
  • Perform any other job related duties as required and requested by management

 The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications and Desirables


High School or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).  2 years’ experience in a luxury Hotel or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as function sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with service team and present specific culinary and wine information to guests.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Absolute Quality Detailed Service ethic. Well-rounded management and operational troubleshooting and problem solving techniques. Strong interpersonal staff and guest relations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
